I Remember (listen)
(Sue Pyper)
I remember making love in the afternoon
Laughing as we tried the options in every room
I remember staying all day in bed
Only leaving when we needed fed
Oh how you loved me and oh how you cared
But I couldn’t tell you that I was so scared
Of giving my heart to you
It’s the one thing I just couldn’t do
I remember the day you gave me the world
We watched together as smiled as it spun and twirled
How I wish I could turn back its time
And finally tell you what been on my mind
Oh how you loved me and oh how you cared
But I couldn’t tell you that I was so scared
Of giving my heart to you
It’s the one thing I just couldn’t do
I remember the day that you walked away
I still could not tell you what you wanted to hear me say
I remember feeling empty inside
Losing count of the nights that I cried
Oh how you loved me and oh how you cared
But I couldn’t tell you that I was so scared
Of giving my heart to you
It’s the one thing I just couldn’t do
So now I sleep all alone in my bed at night
No one wakes up when I reach to turn on the lights
No one holds me so warm and so close
You know, it s the holding that I miss the most
Oh how I loved you and oh how I cared
I wish I’d told you that I was so scared
Of giving my heart to you
It’s the one thing I wished I could do

Do Not Touch (listen)
© Sue Pyper
She is smart and she is bright
But the voices come at night
They Whisper doubts and fears
She has style and she is couth
But always needs the proof
Because she knows that friends betray
She knows she’s pretty
but feels ugly inside
Nothing makes sense – but she still believes the lies
Of what she has always been told
What she was sold
She keeps making up her mind
Always striving to be kind
But doubts get in the way
So she hides herself inside
to escape from all the lies
Of what they just might say
She knows she’s pretty
but feels ugly inside
Nothing makes sense – but she still believes the lies
Of what she has always been told
What she was sold
She puts the loved inside a box
Its Labelled do not touch
And She tells them who they are
but they love her anyway
And promise that they’ll stay
But she knows it’s just not true
Bridge
Do not touch
Don’t get close
It’s too much
Do not touch
Pretending not to feel
Deciding what is real
She keeps the world at bay
words go spinning round and round
But she don’t make a sound
Because there is nothing left to say
She knows she’s pretty
but feels ugly inside
Nothing makes sense – but she still believes the lies
Of what she has always been told
What she was sold

Cold Tired Heart (Listen)
© Sue Pyper
You don’t want to close your eyes
Don’t want to drift of into sleep
scared of Where the dreams may lead you
Afraid the climb will be too steep
And you don’t wanna turn out the light
So you keep running from the moon and night
Searching for the day and the dawn
To warm your cold tired heart
your cold tired heart
I always wished you had a soul
That wandered quietly and still
Moved by warm and gentle breezes
And in simplicity fulfilled
But the soul you have is breathless
and leaves you longing for some peace
Some solitude or soothing balm
To calm your cold tired heart
your cold tired heart.
Bridge
And its been so long
Since you've seen the sun
you've been on this road
Since it began
And you can’t go much further
Till you lighten the load
On the dark side of the mountain
its shaded from the sun
Where the snow is never melted
And summer never comes
there lies the seeds of destiny
just waiting for the heat
waiting to feel warm once more and
restore your cold tired heart

A Thousand Miles (listen)
© Judy Wing and Sue
Pyper
They say its best to just let sleeping dogs lie
But this morning sun through my windshield
Makes me wonder why we didn’t try
or did I just give up again?
But yesterday is far behind me (now)
and it’s good that we’re still friends
Better to be lonely for a little while
than to feel trapped in our lives
You know I’ve tried to keep it real,
today’s the day I’m living
Some things are only safe to feel
with a thousand miles under your wheels
Sun is high and I stop to gas the car,
with all the Truckers looking worn by all the miles
One eye sleeping, the other on the time
cuz’ they’re always on their way
As for me my heart is keeping time,
I’ve learned to Listen
Better to be living the moments as they come,
I won’t worry when I’ll get there
You know I’ve tried to keep it real,
today’s the day I’m living
Some things are only safe to feel
with a thousand miles under your wheels
A mile for me a mile for you
A hundred more for all we’ve been through
Changing lanes a new direction
You know I’d do it all the same (cause)
You know I’ve tried to keep it real, with the love I’m
giving
Some things are only safe to feel with a thousand miles under my wheels
The sun’s behind me now and it’s
heading off to bed
but the CD’s still playing that song
And I almost know the words to every line
and feel what it’s saying
And so I’ll drive until I see the city lights,
never know what I’ll find
Better to keep moving with a trusting heart,
my life’s an open road
You know I’ve tried to keep it real, with the love I’m
giving
Some things I’ll only ever feel with a thousand miles under my
wheels.

Will Love Find Me
(listen)
©
Sue Pyper
Will love find me, find me
In this garden I’ve neglected
Overgrown and too protected
Lies a heart wishing to be free
And will love find me find me
Will love find me find me
In this wilderness I’ve created
Passions lie un-sated
There’s not a soul as far as I can see
Will love find me find me
Will I know it when I see it
Or will I want to run away
Will I spend love wildly
Or save it for a rainy day
Will love find me find me
While the candles softly burning
the hands of time keep turning
Counting off the days that I’m alone
And will love come home come home
Will love find home fond home
Will love come home come home

Taillights In The Rain (listen) (Watch Video)
© Sue Pyper
I’m chasing taillights in the rain
Foot to the floor
I blindly follow on
Although I don’t recall what for
I’m cutting through the night
Light diamonds on the road
The car is empty
But my hearts a heavy load
This world it must be crazy
This world had gone insane
This world is greed personified
When did we lose our minds
We pave over what is good
Pollute the air
Children die in Africa
And we don’t seem to care
We’re busy with our lives
We must keep up the pace
Choosing not to see the pain
In some distant strangers face
So we chase taillights in the rain
Foot to the floor
Choosing not to see
The warnings anymore
We’re cutting through the night
Glass diamonds on the road
the painful sign of what’s to come
on the Dangerous road we chose

Why?(listen)
© Sue Pyper
They’re paving our world, turning green
into grey
They do it for us, Or so they say
They poison the rivers And build to the sky
And are shocked when someone asks why
Why?
Someone ask why?
I’m asking why
(They say) they’re building our future,
But its jobs for the boys
They develop and run In their designer toys
They say they know better, That they know what’s right
Then they disappear into the night
These are crooked men, They bend the rules
mocking our laws, they take us for fools
They’re greasing their palms, With the money we earn
When will we ever learn
Why?
Someone ask why?
I’m asking why
I’m not against progress, I’m
for being smart
you can’t resurrect, Once you’ve ripped out a heart
They won’t
be here, to mourn the loss
As we once again measure the cost
We see it happen, Through the lies we are fed
It’s a cancerous greed, Turning living to dead
It won’t happen here, so the naïve ones say
While they truck half the valley away
Why?
Someone ask why?
I’m asking why
We lived in this town, For its beauty and grace
you’d always see, A friendly face
We welcome you now, Not with a smile
But with box stores for mile upon mile
Why?
We should ask why?
Make sure you ask why
We should ask why
I’m asking why

Sleep On It (listen) (watch Video)
© Judy Wing
The best of you and the best of me
Is what I always dreamed that love could be
But the worst of me and the worst of you
Is a mess I can’t sort through
’Cause I don’t know where you begin and I end
So I’ll sleep on it again.
Do I cut you loose? Do I hold you tight?
Depending on the moment they both feel right
It’s a mystery I can’t unwind
Do we give it up? Do we give it time?
Will there be a reason and a rhyme?
Should we talk to a friend or just sleep on it again?
Are we pieces of a different puzzle?
Hearts of another matter? Soul mates? Cell mates?
Tell me so I get it straight
Are we peas in a pod? Evens at odds?
You’ve got to give me a clue so I know what to do
Is this the middle or the end?
Ah…let’s just sleep on it again.
‘Cause moon light seems to have a special
touch
In the morning there you are, the one I love so much
And it’s the best of you, the best of me
It’s what I always dreamed that love could be
And I don’t want it to end
So let’s just sleep on it again.

Highland Clearance (listen)
© Sue Pyper
We
have farmed this tough and this beautiful land
Like our fathers before
us we understand
that with love and honest toil we can turn this barren soil
Into food for our children
Years of blood sweat and tears Our bairns
they lived and died
While the gentry get fatter, the their debts we all are tied
In my work and my labour I plead with my heart
Just let me just feed our children
CHORUS
Scotland the brave Scotland the free
Oh oh oh, don’t forsake me
Runrig wild running free I remember
the days
We lived like our fathers in traditional ways
Till the sheep they did come and our work was undone
And we were starved and run from our farmlands
With nowhere else to
go to stay and starve our only choice from Scotland we sailed and I
still hear my father’s voice
“A highland lad, you will always be,
And Scotland your own true homeland
To a new land we sailed and we barely
survived
But the red man he helped us or we surely would have died
Though we are miles from our family, we keep our family ties,
but I miss my own dear homeland
Now I live in Nova Scotia and
I’m Canadian born
And when I look at great great grandfather a place inside me mourns
For he never did see the highlands again
and died a pining away for Scotland

Before You Learn To Fly (listen) (watch
video)
© Sue Pyper
Please don’t leave before its time
to go.
Don’t let circumstance define you
There’s still words to till and tales to sow
All your roads are somewhere bound
Every step’s on sacred ground
The journey worth the taking, if you can
(And should you stumble)
We’ll catch you if you’re falling,
falling,
Rescue you if you’re drowning in this tide.
We’ll catch you if you’re falling, by the wayside.
Please don’t cry until its time to
grieve,
Don’t let your mind confine you
You are more than you perceive
All your thoughts create your life
Don’t choose pain or sacrifice
Light or dark, who do you see?
(And should you stumble),
We’ll catch you if you’re falling,
falling,
Rescue you if you’re drowning in this tide.
We’ll catch you if you’re falling, by the wayside.
Don’t fade ‘til your colours
have been seen
Life shapes and then refines you
Rainbows appear where rain has been
In your ever changing sky,
You keep on asking why?
(‘Cause you must) touch the ground before you learn to fly.
And when you’re flying
Catch us if we are falling, falling,
Rescue us if we’re drowning in this tide
Catch us if we’re falling
by the wayside
Catch us if we are falling, falling,
Rescue us if we’re drowning in this tide
Catch us if we’re falling
by the wayside
by the wayside
by the wayside

A Yellow Buick
© Sue Pyper
We met at the farm in the heat of July
You were fried and my life was high
We sang songs in the midday sun
Little did we know what we’d begun
We talked all day until the dinner chime
I heard your story, and I told you mine
Shoulders to cry on, wipe away the tears
I got man trouble so let’s have a beer
Beer in a bottle ‘cause you hate cans
I’m wondering if I’ll ever find that man
When up the stairs walks Ed one day
I think I’ve died and gone to heaven let me sail away
Chorus
Oh Jules what fun we had
Oh Jules I’m on the next plane back
Dancing on the ceiling in the wee small hours
Channelling to our higher powers
The meditations we laughed right through
And that cake in the face that only you could do
Smurf city and a land of smiles
Staying put we travelled millions of miles
Zaparooney now here we come,
Let’s jump the moon and sail around the sun
We sailed our emotions ‘round the horn
In the ‘Last Hope’ will we weather the storm?
Then the “Shinglemill” shining through the fog
“Two Spring Pale Ales” now I know there’s a god
Chorus
A yellow Buick and some C.O.D.’s
Babbling brooks and the whispering trees
Save my place in heaven ‘cause I’ll be there
Be there my friends or be forever square
The Indigo Girls playing at 5am
Psychedelic cards till we run out of pens
Ranger cookies, but don’t eat the cheese
Tequila in the cow field, but don’t tread in these
Chorus
So why not my friend come over here
It’s really not as bad as you might fear
We’ll “Thelma and Louise” it, we’ll hit the
tracks
We’re leaving normal and we’re not coming back
I can’t Go Back Anymore (listen)
© Sue Pyper
You know I’ve seen so many things
in this circle we call living
I travelled over half the world
Did some good and some sinning
I ‘ve been high and I’ve been low
And all the places in between
And I questioned all the things I’ve done
Till I realised what they mean
I can’t go back anymore
I’ve seen the rising of my dawn
I can’t go back anymore
I have finally found my peace
On my island home
I miss my friends and family
and the humour of my youth
But they understood the reasons why
I had to search out my own truth
Looking for the place
Where I could finally rest my head
Where I could finally stop existing
And live my dreams instead
I can’t go back anymore
I’ve seen the rising of my dawn
I can’t go back anymore
I have finally found my peace
On my island home
So in the early morning hours
Driving back from playing tunes
The homeward road ahead of me
Lit by the crooked moon
turns the mountains into crystal
in a liquid silver sea
The inland highway takes me home
To the life that’s calling me
I can’t go back anymore
I’ve seen the rising of my dawn
I can’t go back anymore
I have finally found my peace
On my island home
